Unlocking Gut Health for Your Pet

Unlocking Gut Health for Your Pet

There has been a wealth of studies in the last decade showing just how much of our overall health is linked our guts. The same thing is also true for our pets. But did you know probiotics are just one part of your gut’s ecosystem?

There are three terms you should be aware of:

  • Prebiotics – The food eaten by good bacteria to grow
  • Probiotics – The good gut bacteria grown in the colon
  • Postbiotics – The compounds good gut bacteria release into the body
  • PREBIOTICS

Your body doesn’t digest fiber or resistant starch – which are parts from certain plants that act similarly to fiber. Common resistant starches can be found in peas, sweet potatoes, rice, beans, lentils and even plantains. Your stomach doesn’t digest these sources and instead they pass through until they reach your colon. It’s there they become the food for the healthy gut bacteria growing down there. Cut all fiber or resistant starch from your diet, the probiotic bacteria in your colon will eventually die.

    PREBIOTICS FOUND IN NAAVI:
  • Chicory Root
  • Beet Fiber
  • Peas
  • Sorghum Fiber
  • PROBIOTICS

They sure do get all the attention. And for good reason! There is a direct link between our immune system and gut health. The challenge is that probiotics are incredibly fragile. Too much heat, they die. Wrong acidity, they die. Tiny amount of water, they start to grow and then die from lack of prebiotic food. So how do you keep them alive on the outside of a food? And how do you ensure they make it through the high-acid digestive tract to the colon?

We use a unique technology and can best be described as a protective layer that puts the probiotic to sleep. There is sleeps on the outside of our Power Crisp until the dog eats it. The acid from the digestive system removes that protective layer, allowing the good bacteria to “wake up” much closer to colon where it can start to grow.

    NATIVE PROBIOTICS FOUND IN NAAVI:
  • Dried Propionibacterium Freudenreichii Fermentation Product
  • Dried Enterococcus Faecium Fermentation Product
  • Dried Lactobacillus Casei Fermentation Product
  • Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product
  • POSTBIOTICS

Postbiotics is a relatively new term coined to talk about the compounds that the good bacteria release into your body when they are healthy and growing. Each type of bacteria grows up and releases different compounds that each boost immunity and promote overall heath in different ways.

We specifically use multiple strains of protected probiotics in Naavi to release a more wholistic blend of postbiotics into your dog’s body to support immunity.

In addition, we also include plasma which has shown to lower inflammation even in the gut so that these postbiotics have an even better chance of effectively.

You may notice many pet foods leverage a type of bacteria that isn’t native to the digestive tract of dogs – Bacillus Coagulans. This a spore-forming bacteria found in dirt. It would be native to animals like chickens or pigs who eat their food from the ground. But it’s not typically found in dogs or humans unless specifically consumed. But because this is a spore-forming bacteria from the soil, it’s much heartier and can survive longer. So it’s been the only answer for a long time if you wanted stable probiotics on pet food. And yes, it can definitely deliver its own type of postbiotics. But it’s only a single strain.

Naavi was built gut health specifically in mind. Prebiotics, protected native probiotics and postbiotic compounds are all thoughtfully built into every slow-smoked bowl.
